Nine days of solemn novena masses were held from 24 to 31 October in preparation for the commemmoration of All Souls Day on 2 November in the church of Santa Rita. Hours before the start of the Mass (5:30pm), parishioners were encouraged to come to Church so that they may write the names of all their departed loved ones in a book which serves as a memorial list of all the faithful who have died. At 3:00 a.m. the bells tolled to call on the parishioners to assemble in the Church Patio. Tunggal ditac at king mipnung catahimican, daratang la ding tau, anac, matua, babayi, lalaki. Each one having his/her own reason for being there, but foremost of which is this: they would like to recall and remember that fateful day (or days) when lahar threatened to bury our beloved town!

Santa Rita Church is a very lovely church! It deserves to be kept that way and be respected as such. This is a rather very common sentiment among the “cosyang” and concerned parishioners as well of Santa Rita. Among Gene, the parish priest, could only but agree.
