Goodbye to the old convent… hello Museo de Santa Rita!
Question: What?! Are you going to demolish the old convent?!?
Answer: Of course not. We’re just planning to vacate it. The Parish Priest and his office staff are preparing to leave the old cumbento.
Question: Ah, balacu sa lasacan ye ing lumang cumbento (I thought you were going to demolish the old convent!) And why do you wish to vacate the old convent?
Answer: To give way to its conversion as a Heritage Convent and a Museum.

Parishioners and visitors alike filled the parish church as early as 3:30 a.m. to hear Mass on the day of St. Rita’s feast day, 22 May 2011. More visitors were expected this year since the fiesta fell on a weekend but the actual numbers were much more than those anticipated, with Mass-goers spilling out of the doors of the church for most of the Masses, even into the evening.

The Liturgy for the anointing of the sick & elderly was held at the parish on the eve of St. Rita’s feast day, 21 May 2011, at 7:00 a.m. by the parish priest, Msgr. Gene Reyes. The occasion was well-attended by people from all walks of life, from the elderly – some of whom came in wheelchairs – to those with medical conditions, which included a few children.

Government officials, representatives of every barrio in the parish, the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) and other church organizations and ministries of Santa Rita de Cascia Parish marched together around the pipaglimbunan or processional route on May 12, 2011, at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Like in previous years, the “Martsa nang Apung Dita” is held on the eve of the first day of the novena for the feast day of St. Rita on 22 May.
