On Saturday, 10 December 2010, at 7:00 p.m., the Parish of Santa Rita de Cascia, through its Parish Finance & Pastoral Councils, will serenade the major donors (second cycle of the fund-raising) to the construction of its new convent in an outdoor benefit concert, to be held at the parish convent garden.
Artists who are friends of the parish will perform classical Filipino songs – from kundimans to timeless ballads that will surely make for a sentimental evening.
Guests are requested to come in formal or Filipiniana attire.

In the last meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council, the head of the Music Ministry, Ms. Recita G. Pineda, reminded the Chapel Pastoral Council (CPCs) choirs to refrain from singing Christmas songs during Advent. Christmas songs should only be allowed after the birth of Christ onwards. Why? Isn’t the start of Simbang Bengi the start of Christmas already? How is Advent different from Christmas?
Watch the video to know the reason why.

In 1571, the expedition reached Manila, where the Augustinians built the main house of their order in the Philippines.

By 1578, the Order was joined by the Franciscans, and then by the Jesuits (1581), the Dominicans (1587) and by the Recollects (1606).

In 1595, the entire island was divided amongst the missionaries for evangelisation. The Franciscans were assigned Camarines and Bicol. To the Jesuits was given Samar and Leyte. Cagayan, Pangasinan, parts of Bataan, Isabela, Babuyanes and Batanes were in the charge of the Dominicans, while the Recollects went to Zambales, Palawan, Calamianes, and parts of Mindanao. Of course, being the first to arrive in the islands, the Augustinians were given the prime choice of the Tagalog provinces, Pampanga, Ilocos, Cebu and Panay.

In connection with being a former Augustinian parish – for parishioners to be more aware and appreciative of this heritage – and to promote the devotion to Our Lady of Consolation, within the Santa Rita de Cascia Parish will be held the procession of Augustinian Saints on Sunday, 13 November, at 7:30 p.m., after the 5:30 p.m. Mass.

The 13th of November is the birthday of St. Augustine and is also traditionally observed by the Augustinian Order as the day to celebrate all the saints of their order, not only those who are officially considered as Saints and Blesseds by the Catholic Church but also the Augustinians who have lived holy lives on earth and are now in heaven. Through the procession, parishioners are invited to know more about the particular saints and be inspired by their lives.

The images that will be in the procession are as follows:

  St. Rita of Cascia

  St. Augustine of Hippo

  St. Monica

  St. John Stone

  St. Clare of Montefalco

  St. Magdalene of Nagasaki

  St. Nicholas of Tolentine

  St. William the Hermit

  St. Ezequiel Moreno

  St. Alypius of Thagaste

  St. John of Sahagún

  St. Thomas of Villanueva

  St. Alfonso de Orozco

Nuestra Señora de Consolacion y Correa

This is being organised by the Cofradia ning Cintas.

On the 17th of August 2008, a spectacle never before seen in the parish happened. Long lines of students and pupils in uniform, government officials and ordinary people on the street patiently waited for St. Rita’s relic.
On the 17th of August 2008, a spectacle never before seen in the parish happened. Long lines of students and pupils in uniform, government officials and ordinary people on the street patiently waited for St. Rita’s relic. When it arrived, a very solemn procession was then held which concluded with a concelebrated Mass at the parish church.

Exactly three years after the arrival of St. Rita’s relic in the parish, townsfolk and visitors, devotees all, made time to hear Mass and venerate their patron saint’s relic. At 6:00 a.m., a solemn High Mass was presided by the Archbishop Paciano Aniceto. Fourteen priests from the archdiocese, including Msgr. Gene Reyes, were concelebrants.

After the Mass, at 8:00 a.m., St. Rita’s relic was exposed for public veneration. In an orderly manner, the following schedule was followed:

8:00 a.m. – Church goers (those who attended the 6:00 a.m. Mass)
9:00 a.m. – SRCS and BPC San Jose
10:00 a.m. – Sta. Rita College
11:00 a.m. – Dominican School and BPC San Matias
12:00 noon - L U N C H B R E A K
1:00 p.m. - Central School, BPC San Vicente and Sitio Dalan Bayu
2:00 p.m. - V. de Castro Elem. School, ASSET, BPC Sta. Monica
& San Agustin
3:00 p.m. - San Isidro Elementary School and BPC San Isidro
4:00 p.m. - San Juan Elementary School and BPC San Juan
5:00 p.m. - BPC Sitio Dalan Betis, Government Officials & Employees
and the General Public

At 11:00 a.m., the students of Dominican School sponsored the Mass, which Fr. Jess Manabat celebrated. Another High Mass at 5:30 p.m., presided by Msgr. Gene Reyes, closed the day’s proceedings.

To accommodate the growing number of devotees from within and outside the parish, this year, more Masses were held with more veneration hours. Tue enough, from 5:30 a.m. onwards, the church was filled with people, at times even spilling onto the church yard, to think that it was on Wednesday, a working day.

The parish, through the leadership of the parish priest, Msgr.
The parish, through the leadership of the parish priest, Msgr. Gene Reyes, will be spending PhP 500,000.00 for the the repair and restoration of the church’s five retablos. This will entail some time, since much care will have to be taken in cleaning the antique woodwork by several teams of artisans.

Msgr. Reyes expressed his desire to have the retablos repaired since they already sustained some damage and a few missing parts. They would also be restored and preserved since these are said to be one of the very few neo-Gothic retablos in the Philippines. In several Masses, before the final blessing, Msgr. Gene gave emphasis to the heritage aspects of the retablos and how these have been modified through the years, especially the center, which was cut and heavily modified in 1984 when the parish church was renovated.

The initial scope of work on the main altar is expected to be done prior to the 3rd anniversary of the arrival of St. Rita’s relic on 17 August. The bulk of the repair will continue thereafter.
